Summary

Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), aims to provide high-quality statistics and data on Europe. Eurostat re-publishes the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) greenhouse gas emissions data. The EU, being a party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), annually reports its greenhouse gas inventory for the previous two years within the area covered by its Member States. The EU’s inventory aligns with national greenhouse gas inventories from its Member States.

The dataset includes a wide variety of source sectors for greenhouse gas emissions. Specific to farmed-animals, data is available for the following sectors: fuel combustion in agriculture, forestry and fishing; “livestock”; manure management related to various farmed animals (e.g., cattle and pigs); and, enteric fermentation of farmed animals (e.g., cattle and pigs).

Data is available for carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3).This data is available for various EU members, covering the period between 2013 and 2021. The emissions are measured in thousand tonnes and million tonnes, depending on the type of gas.

Eurostat also offers a user-friendly data visualization tool featuring line graphs, bar graphs, and a geographic map to easily track and explore the trends and changes over time.
