Summary
According to its website, Climate Watch is an online platform designed to empower policymakers, researchers, media and other stakeholders with open climate data, visualizations and resources. Climate Watch is managed by the World Resources Institute and is a contribution to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Partnership.
Climate Watch includes data and visualizations on all countries’ greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and NDCs. Additionally, users can find comprehensive mapping of linkages between NDCs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and associated targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Other emission scenarios and profiles are available.
Agriculture emissions can be viewed by subsector, which includes areas such as manure management, manure applied to soil, and manure left on pasture. Emission intensity is broken down by meat and dairy from various types of animals, such as cows and goats. Sector emissions can also be viewed by energy carriers (e.g., gas-diesel) used and land use subsectors. Emissions are represented as carbon dioxide equivalents, and displayed as either total emissions, per Capita emissions, or per GDP emissions. Depending on the filter, data is available from 1961-2019.
Information on the data sources accompanies the data display tool. The data is derived from two sources: 1) FAOSTAT Emissions Database from 1961-2018, and 2) Climate Watch Historical Country Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data, which contains sector-level GHG emissions data for 194 countries and the European Union from 1990-2019. Non-CO2 emissions are expressed in CO2 equivalents using 100-year global warming potential values from the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report. Population and GDP values are extracted from the World Bank Databank Development Indicators.
