Using phylogeographical models (those that examine genotypes and their spatial distributions), the authors simulate viral sharing hotspots among 3,139 wild mammalian species in 2070, under various climate-change and land-use scenarios. An estimated 4000 instances of cross-species virus transmission will occur due to new species aggregating together in the following areas: high elevations, biodiversity hotspots, and regions of Asia and Africa with high density populations.
