‘Traditional conservation’ typically dismisses the interests of animals when they conflict with the interests of humans. However, emerging branches of this approach, compassionate conservation (CC) and multispecies justice (MJ), challenge this dismissal. The authors propose MJ as a system of baseline duties to others. They conclude that a comprehensive conservation ethic should promote an ethics of care with a focus on the interests of animals.
