Summary

This article is behind a paywall. It has been summarized below based on the content of the abstract.

The authors examined the interaction between future agricultural land clearance and the habit preferences for almost 20,000 terrestrial vertebrate species. Habitat loss was prevalent, with agricultural land clearance taking habit away from an estimated 87.7% of species. Moreover, over 6% of species will lose more than a quarter of their habitat. The authors assert that these threats could be mostly averted with policies that focus on what food is produced in the future, and how and where it is produced. Although they don’t provide specific recommendations in the abstract, they do acknowledge that such policies would contribute to healthier human diets.
